Performance for a suspended performer
Also part of Théo Mercier’s performative exhibition Outremonde.

A thick rope attached to a tree or ceiling. A man hangs by his feet, upside down. Under the effect of gravity, his muscles and joints gradually relax, his blood rushes to his face, his eyes remain closed. Inverted, his body becomes a hanging, shapeless object, traversed by slow, minute movements. It all began with this simple, subversive act: hanging upside down by my feet. Reversing the usual representation of the body, to invite the spectator to reconsider established conventions. I suspend myself peacefully, effortlessly, to let go and apprehend the things around me from a different angle. As Tarot card 12 presents it: the Hanged Man withdraws from the world, without abandoning it. It heralds a period of withdrawal, gestation and retreat. It symbolizes detachment from words, knowledge, possessions and needs, but also from emotions, relationships and desire.
